Josh Spence

Josh Spence is one talented-happenin' Harp player.  I played with Josh earlier this year at WEFT 90.1FM with Dave Wright in Champaign, Illinois.  Josh has a bad-ass harp style and makes his notes sound like a beautiful voice singing a melody.  Josh's influences are an amazing variety of legendary blues and R&B artists' like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson I & II, Little Walter, Junior Wells, Jimmy Reed, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Koko Taylor, Aretha Franklin, and Albert King, just to name a few.
Josh Spence is one of the founding members of The Sugar Prophets' who's sound is heavily rooted in the Blues and Rock N Roll of the 50's-70's with hints of Soul, Jam Band, Country, Jazz, Reggae, Funk, and Rockabilly.  According to their biography, The Sugar Prophets', 2011 International Blues Challenge Finalist, are an interesting amalgam of backgrounds and talent that have seemingly merged together in the right time, place, and groove. Fiery singer and harp ace Josh Spence combine with veteran guitar slingers A.J “Apple Jack” Williams and Joe Asselin (formerly of the Kilborn Alley Blues Band), along with a groovin’ rhythm section of Kevin Wilson and Vince “Fuzz” Elam to create their own sweet sound of the Blues! Their raw, intense energy and blue collar lyrics are both danceable and deep.
The Sugar Prophets' debut CD, released Jan. 2011, hit #14 and #21 on the Roots Music Reports Blues Radio Charts and Living Blues Charts, respectively. The self-titled album has also just been nominated for Best New Artist Debut Recording by Blues Blast Magazine. With their long-standing talent, passion, relatable lyrics, and a sound chock full of groove and grit, the band continues to garner new fans and devoted followers wherever they play. The Sugar Prophets' are a soul-inspiring locomotive heading straight for your door. Listen up and become a believer in this heartfelt message of The Sugar Prophets' amazing music.
