When we first got there, we had to do our tourist-y thing and look around. I found my way through Bourbon St. and even early in the morning, I heard jazz music flowing out of the restaurants and bars. Of course, I did a little shopping and bought t-shirts and a mojo, but I have to admit, seeing the Croc and Alligator skulls for sale made me sad. But the figurines... Oh the figurines! They give a True example of what happens in the Big Easy at Mardi Gras. So very naughty...and nice! ;)
After a day of sight-seeing, we hit the town in search of some good music and fun. Even though it was Monday, they closed off the streets that we had driven on earlier that day so the patrons could walk down the middle of the street. In that regard, it reminded me of Beale Street in Memphis, TN.
It was hard to pick which club to go into. I wanted to see and hear everything at once and if you've never tried that, it's impossible. Lol. So after poking our heads into venue after venue and hearing music like jazz, r&b, funk, a little bluegrass/country, and of course, the Delta Blues, we decided on this Funk group called Shout at Fat Catz. And these catz made you want to Shout...Loud! They are a 9 piece band with a 4 piece horn section and they had this lead singer with a voice that was out of this world. They had me up and dancing and drinking a few shots with my little homey/waitress. Everyone in Fat Catz was having fun and the staff made sure we had as much fun as possible. I'll post some pics on my facebook page.
I left New Orleans wanting more. You have to make sure you set aside a few days to really take in all of the culture, music and everything else. I can't wait to go back to NOLA!
